Brandon Shope joined the Spectrum News team in June 2015 as a general assignment reporter.

He has lived in Southeastern North Carolina for most of his life and is proud to call the Port City home. His passion for news and broadcasting began at an early age. This hobby soon turned into his dream and career goal.

After graduating from North Brunswick High School in 2011, he started his first broadcasting job. For four years, Brandon served in various roles at Cumulus Media’s 102.7 WGNI-FM, including working as the stations only weekend on-air radio personality. He genuinely enjoyed being able to interact with his listeners, providing them with the music, entertainment, information, weather/traffic updates and news reports they wanted to hear.

He graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in May 2015 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies. During his time at UNCW, he participated in numerous philanthropy events, raising money for organizations like the Relay for Life/American Cancer Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Feeding America. He is a strong believer in community service and feels blessed to be able to help out at charity events whenever possible. Halfway through his senior year of college, he fine-tuned his broadcast abilities by learning more about the news industry.

Here are five other things you might not know about Brandon:

  1. I was class president of my senior class in high school and helped anchor a weekly news program. You don't want to see the old clips...let's just say I was a little awkward back then.
  2. I produced and hosted my own radio show at UNC-Wilmington and was a radio personality for several local FM music stations in Wilmington throughout college. I got the chance to meet several artists during that time like Edwin McCain, Victoria Justice, among others!
  3. I’m allergic to milk, which means, sadly, no ice-cream.
  4. I’m a HUGE NASCAR fan. My favorite driver is Kevin Harvick, and I try to get to as many races as I can when they're in Charlotte! I'm also a big Carolina Panthers fan.
  5. I’m really an old soul at heart. I love old shows like "The Andy Griffith Show," any of Clint Eastwood's movies and some of my favorite songs of all time are from the 1950s & 60s!
