Deep tropical moisture has settled over Texas and is spreading showers and a few thunderstorms across the state today.

That high and mid-level Pacific moisture is pushing in from the west. Embedded disturbances aloft have promoted scattered showers and a few thunderstorms early Friday across the San Antonio area. Expect scattered showers and a few thunderstorms across South Central Texas through the afternoon and evening.

A weak cold front slides into South Central Texas early Saturday. That boundary will serve to focus heavier rains along its length. Forecast models indicate a heavy band of storms in the Hill Country by Saturday morning, but the line weakens as it approaches the I-35 corridor. Heavy downpours are possible with localized flooding west of town.

As the front drifts slowly across San Antonio, more showers are possible with brief heavy downpours Saturday afternoon. But computer forecasts have shifted the heaviest rain east and north of the city. Current projections have .50 to 1.25 inches in rain totals across the region with isolated spots of 3 to 5 inches.

It has already been one of the wettest Septembers in San Antonio history; more than .82 – as of Friday morning -- in the next few days will put 2018 as the number one wettest September in recorded history.

Temperatures will stay near seasonal averages with lows in the 70s and highs upper 80s to near 90.

The Autumnal Equinox occurs Saturday, the first day of Fall. See the details in the Seven Day Forecast.
