After weeks of unrelenting heat and drought, a persistent pattern of rain has parked over Texas for more than a week now. San Antonio is on track for the wettest September ever and even more rain is heading our way.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast today. We’ve been watching a disturbance in the Caribbean that is now moving across the Yucatan into the Gulf of Mexico. Computer forecasts have begun to zero in on a less organized system, but all signs point to another heavy rain event starting Friday. Right now it doesn’t look like a Tropical Depression or Storm, just an open tropical wave much like the system that started the rainy spell a week ago.

The ill-defined center of the wave is likely to move across Deep South Texas and Northern Mexico, but our area will still be on the wetter side of the disturbance. Additional flooding rains are possible through the weekend. With soils saturated, any additional rains will quickly runoff and another round of flooding is possible through Sunday.  Remember, if you encounter a flooded road, turn around – don’t drown!

Through the weekend, cloud cover will hold temperatures in the middle and upper 80s. Morning lows will be in the low and middle 70s.
