High pressure over the eastern US and Texas will feature hot weather through the next several days. This pattern stabilizes the atmosphere and dries the air, so no showers are expected through the next week.

The combination of dry conditions and hot temperatures can develop into a feedback loop. That’s where things get drier and hotter each day with the dryness reinforcing the heat and vice-versa. The result is usually a string of 100+ degree days.

The pattern is expected to persist over Texas through the next week. As air temperatures climb above 100 degrees, heat index values – how it ‘feels’ – will climb to 105 to 108. That may trigger Heat Advisories due to dangerously hot conditions for some parts of South Texas. Also, a new surge of Saharan dust is moving in from the east, casting a thick haze across the area.

The hot and dry trend is forecast through the next week. Expect only a few morning clouds and afternoon sun with highs around 100 with morning lows in the middle 70s. Highs will push to and above 100 late this week.
