Deep moisture on strong south winds has swept over much of Texas. This brings clouds for much of the morning but as drier air mixes down to the surface, skies will clear briefly this afternoon. Look for highs Friday to reach the upper 80s with spots to the west in the low 90s.

As a dryline forms west of the I-35 corridor this afternoon, an upper level disturbance will also pass overhead. This looks to be the best chance for showers and thunderstorms but most activity will likely be east of the I-35 corridor. There is also a marginal risk of a few storms reaching severe limits with gusty winds and hail.

A strong late-season cold front follows early Saturday morning with strong winds and much cooler temperatures. Temperatures drop about 20 degrees for the weekend, with highs in the 70s and lows in the upper 40s. Fire danger will be very high, especially in the Hill Country. A Fire Weather Watch in in effect for much of the area through Saturday afternoon.
