SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA is planning a new School of Data Science and National Security Collaboration Center for its downtown campus.

This comes after a $15 million gift and parcels of land that complete this $90 million project. It's the largest gift UTSA has ever received.

The parcels of land will be used for the new school, the center and for the relocation of the UTSA College of Business.

UTSA says the expansion further proves San Antonio as a powerhouse for cybersecurity, data science and entrepreneurship.

"The presence of a major research institution, a tier 1 university, really goes hand in hand with the resurgence of a great city like San Antonio," said San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg. "So I'm extremely excited about what this means. I do believe that this will be a day that we all remember”

They expect this will bring in an additional 10,000 students to downtown.

After the property transfer is approved, construction is expected to start next fall and be completed within 10 years.
