  • Raashon Fontelroy currently being held at the Bexar County Jail

On Thursday, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested 25-year-old Raashon Fontelroy in connection to the death of 57-year-old Lapoe Smith Jr.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. November 30. Investigators say the two got into a dispute over gambling money and it turned deadly.

"Mr. Fontelroy approached Mr. Smith in the parking lot. Mr. Smith tried to get away in his truck,” San Antonio Police Department spokesman Douglas Greene said. “Mr. Fontelroy allegedly fired several shots at his truck while he was trying to leave that location."

Greene said officers then responded to a major accident down the road from the scene. Detectives then linked the crash at the intersection of Potranco and Culebra roads to the fatal shooting.

County records show Fontelroy has an extensive criminal history, which includes aggravated robbery, assault, and burglary of a vehicle.

Fontelroy is currently being held at the Bexar County Jail pending magistration.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
