SAN ANTONIO — One person is in the hospital and two have been detained after an alleged break in at a Northeast Bexar County home.

  • Man shoots at suspected burglars
  • Teen treated at hospital for gunshot wound
  • Homeowner won’t face any charges

According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home around 10 a.m.  Tuesday on Caballo Canyon near Binz-Engleman Road for a burglary in progress.

The homeowner told deputies when he arrived to his house he found three suspects trying to steal. He chased them to the second floor and at some point opened fire.

“From what I was told is the homeowner has, you know, different weapons in the residence. Some in that location where the suspects had fled from. So, I wasn’t’ given any information if they were armed at the time,” Johnny Garcia with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said.

The homeowner told authorities he was unsure if any of the three were hurt. The suspects were able to climb down from a front window and got away.

“That homeowner was alarmed and feared for his life,” Garcia said.

The sheriff’s office said, less than half an hour after the incident, two people were found at a home on Burning Sunrise about 3 miles away from the attempted burglary.

One teen was taken SAMMC with a gunshot wound. The other one was detained by SAPD officers and arrested by BCSO deputies. Another woman was also taken into custody.

Both juveniles and the woman face felony charges of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit theft.

The homeowner was not hurt and will not face any charges.
