BEXAR COUNTY, Texas - From the mayor's seat, to baseball, to transforming San Antonio, Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff has a lot to write about, and he's adding one more book to his list.

  • Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff releasing sixth book
  • Book details changes in San Antonio over 50 years
  • Launch party set for December 4

"I go home every night and write. I leave a little later in the morning because I write in the morning also," Wolff said.

After jotting down hundreds of pages of notes, Wolff turns them into a behind-the-scenes story of who was there and what happened.

"In the county we have almost 2 million people now. I think we're the 19th largest in county in the nation," he said.

After nearly five decades in state and local politics, there's a lot to think about lately. That's where his sixth book, The Changing Face of San Antonio, comes in.

"The river, the creek, the missions [is] one of them [topics]," he said.

It also covers the Tobin Center, the expansion of University Health System and more.

"Therapeutic justice, what we're doing to try to help people in our justice system rather than just incarcerate them. We've totally changed that in the 17 years I've been there," Wolff said.

You'll also find chapters on the cyber industry and Bibliotech success.

"I think you'd like it," he said.

Not all projects work, but he still writes about them. After all, not everything in 50 years will pan out perfectly.

"A lot of the stuff I write I end up throwing away because it didn't work out. I wrote a lot about streetcars. And soccer! I might have a little bit in there about that," he said.

Wolff says you never really know if something is going to work out until it's working. He won this past election with 58 percent of the vote.

"There's generally a better feeling about people here, and I don't know how to tell you how that all came about, but I think it's because most of the leaders have tried to be more inclusive," Wolff said.

As an author, his story is never really over.

"Let me tell you what I'm working on now. It's called 102 Principles of Power Politics at the Local Level. That will be a little controversial because some people will be stunned by it," he said.
