According to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, a couple of deputies went to serve a warrant to man for failing to register as a sex offender, at a local store. The man resisted arrest, and deputies used a Taser on him. He went to the nearby Carter Motel, which also serves as apartments and barricaded himself inside. He started shooting at deputies, and injured one.

Police said the injured deputy was in critical condition and was taken to Dell Seton in Austin. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office sent an update saying he had lost an eye and doctors were trying to save the other eye. They identified the deputy as Calvin "CJ' Lehmann.

After four hours, the shooting suspect was taken into custody.
