AUSTIN, Texas - It's the only Republican-held Texas House seat in Travis County.

District 47 encompasses western Travis County, including parts of West Austin, Bee Cave, Lakeway and Lago Vista. Republican incumbent Paul Workman is trying to hang on to the seat against Democratic challenger Vikki Goodwin.

Goodwin is a real estate business owner who touts public education and gun reforms as top issues. She said the demographics of the district have changed giving her a good shot at victory.

“There’s been a lot of movement into this district,” Goodwin said. “I think women are going to come out and vote in droves. And I think teachers and parents who are concerned about public education are going to come out and vote this time around.”

Goodwin is pushing for more state funding for public education and is against school-voucher programs.

She also wants to increase gun regulations, like banning bump stocks and closing gun sale loopholes.
