AUSTIN, Texas - Republican Rep. Roger Williams is trying to hold on to the House seat he's held since 2013.

The 25th Congressional District stretches from Wimberley to near Fort Worth and includes parts of Austin. The district went for President Trump in 2016 by nearly 15 points.

Williams' Democratic challenger is campaigning on a message of universal health care and making sure those with preexisting conditions can keep their coverage.

Williams said he thinks Obamacare is the worst legislation he’s ever seen.

“But I think people with preexisting conditions should be able to get insurance,” Williams said. “I would support that. But what I don’t support is nationalized health care.”

Williams also said he’s never been a big wall guy when it comes to President Trump’s border wall.

“I’m a big border security guy. I’ve always thought more boots on the ground was the best way, more technology is a good way,” Williams said.

He also said he’d support a three-year work visa program for Dreamers, those brought to the country illegally as children, but not provide a pathway to citizenship.

“We already have a pathway to citizenship,” he said. “You don’t want to put them at the head of the line.”
