SAN ANTONIO -- With early voting set to begin Monday, Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacque Callanen asked the public to understand what’s on the ballot.
“We want informed voters,” said Callahan from election headquarters Friday afternoon.
Callanen wants potential voters to visit the Bexar County Elections website. She says there can find ballot and precinct information beneficial to the mid-term elections.
“Please go to our website, “she said.
Bexar County officials reported a record 1.1 million in voter registrations, up from the previous midterm mark of 959,000 registrations in 2014. For the 2016 presidential election, 1,049,000 citizens registered to vote.
Higher voter registration numbers put the elections office on notice that extra manpower will be needed at the polls.
Texas overall is setting voter registration records with more than 15.6 million people signing up to vote this election cycle.
“We are at the same level of working in here, of working at the same, as if it were a presidential election,” Callanen said.
Early voting polls open Monday at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Early voting is open through November 2. The election is Tuesday, November 6.
