AUSTIN, Texas -- While some statewide Republican candidates seem to be coasting to the November 6 finish line, Democratic candidates are making one final push in a big, blue bus.

  • Candidates will visit 40 Texas cities
  • They will host nearly 50 "Get Out The Vote" events
  • Round Rock and San Antonio locations

Lupe Valdez, the Democrat running for Governor, says she's got three hot-button issues she plans on talking to voters about while on tour: public education, health care and the economy.

"We're preparing to govern, and we're also making sure the democrats are as enthusiastic as we are," said Democratic candidate for Lt. Governor, Mike Collier.

Collier said he is focusing on property taxes. It is an issue that Collier said the Republicans in office aren't talking honestly about.

"They're mouthing the same lines that they've been mouthing for over two decades and what do we get for it as Texans? Public schools that are starving, property taxes that are through the roof," said Collier.

But Republicans hoping to get re-elected, like State Representative Tony Dale, feel confident his party's plans will win over voters once again.  Democrats are targeting several Central Texas races they think they can flip, Dale's included.

"I think there's some people that would like you to think that, but we've got voters that are motivated. I think they know it's going to be a high turn-out election and if Republican voters don't show up then they're going to get the results that they don't like," said Dale.

However as these Democrats boarded the bus, they were hoping their boots on the ground strategy will motivate voters.

"We're going to continue to work for the everyday Texan," said Valdez.

Over the next 10 days, the candidates will visit 40 Texas cities and host nearly 50 "Get Out The Vote" events.
