AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas Democrats are set to spend at least $800,000 against Texas House Republicans ahead of Election Day.

The House Democratic Campaign Committee said it's an effort to flip districts they view as competitive. The contributions will be concentrated in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and three Central Texas districts – 47, 52 and 136.

"Those are three really top targets for us. We're going to make sure we're spending significant amounts of money to make sure we get our candidates across the line," Rep. Cesar Blanco, D-El Paso, said.

District 136 encompasses Cedar Park, North Austin, Leander and part of Round Rock. Republican incumbent Rep. Tony Dale is facing Democrat John Bucy and Libertarian Zack Parks. This is the second time Dale and Bucy have gone up against each other. Dale beat Bucy by 13 percentage points in 2014.

But Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump there in 2016, so Democrats consider it flippable.

“A lot has changed since the 2014 race,” Bucy said. “One, we've focused significantly on building the grassroots infrastructure in the area. We've also just seen a major change in population growth in our area. It's the fastest growing area.”

Bucy also said one of his top priorities would be boosting funding for public education.
