SAN ANTONIO — For two hours on Wednesday, the San Antonio City Council members discussed updated potential regulations for short-term rentals.

The proposal would prevent rental owners from selling food or drinks to guests, and from renting out their properties for events such as weddings. It would also require owners to pay a $100 certification cost, which must be renewed every three years for the same fee. Rather than certification through the city, owners could participate in self-certification.

Some concerns from council members about short-term rentals in general include too many "hotels" in neighborhoods, decreased property values and enforcing the Hotel Occupancy Tax.

The vote to pass the regulations is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 1.
