AUSTIN, Texas -- Artists in Austin are getting the chance to hear from potential city leaders and their views on issues impacting the creative community.

• Austin Creative Alliance hosted the event
• Candidates suggested financial counseling programs
• Local artists said it was valuable to learn where each candidate stands

Tuesday, the Mayoral and City Council candidates took part in a forum aimed at the arts community.

The Austin Creative Alliance hosted the event, which allowed each candidate to speak on certain topics like affordability for artists, and the importance of preserving historic venues in the city. For local artists, they say it was valuable to learn where each candidate stands.

"Folks have had such difficulty not only living in Austin but we have so many people moving here every day. So by having these candidates here this evening and taking that it is important for them to be here, it's truly a great start I think,” said musician Reagan Stone.

The forum was moderated, with each candidate answering pre-determined questions in one minute. Some candidates suggested financial counseling programs and rent assistance as sustainable solutions to help artists.
