KERRVILLE, Texas – A 20-year-old Texas mother has pleaded guilty to child endangerment charges after she left her toddlers in a hot vehicle overnight and they died.

Police believe Amanda Hawkins intentionally left her daughters in a vehicle while she visited her friends in June 2017. Her daughters were left in the vehicle from Tuesday night to midday Wednesday.

The girls, 1 and 2 years old, died the next day at a San Antonio hospital.

Kerr County Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer said it was the most horrific case of child endangerment he has seen in his 37 years in law enforcement.

Hawkins pleaded guilty to two counts of child abandonment and two counts of injury to a child. She will be sentenced on Dec. 12 at 8:30 a.m.
