CASTROVILLE, Texas -- Ten families were displaced at the Medina River RV Park where the owners are now cleaning up after flood waters destroyed their homes on Saturday.

At the height of the flood, waters came up to the RV's windows, which is more than 8 feet. The Medina River actually crested around 20 feet. The RV Park is right on the Medina River which is down stream of Medina Lake.

Early Saturday morning the rain came down quickly.

Areas around the lake picked up close to 6 inches of rain within a few hours while areas closer to the RV park only saw between 1 inch and 3 inches. The worst of the river flooding can happen after the rain has stropped to allow for water to flow downstream and to crest.

"This river was way below and within 45 minutes it just jumped like a raging river, it just came up. And they really don't have any kind of warning system here to let you know hey it's coming you have to go,” said Steve Duran, RV owner.

Owners called the fire department for a water rescue.

Larry McMillan is a neighbor who became a hero rescuing about 15 people and several dogs using his jet ski. McMillan was on his way to breakfast when he noticed the high waters then turned right around to get his jet ski and save the Medina River RV Park.

Everyone at the RV park is safe and the Medina County Commissioner has placed these families into hotel rooms for the next couple days.
