SAN ANTONIO -- Days worth of heavy rains mean a continued threat of flooding across the San Antonio area causing several road closures.

Important information:

  • 6 inches of fast moving water is enough to knock an adult off their feet.
  • 1 foot of rushing water can carry a small car.
  • 2 feet of fast moving water can carry most vehicles.

"If I can see the lines I'm going through, but like today I'm not going to go through it. There's a car going right there. So yes, they do. Some people turn around most people don't, they just go right through," said business owner Colin Raymond.

The high water crossing on George Road between Lockhill Selma and NW Military blocks Raymond on his way to work. This area has received more than 6 inches of rain since Sunday.

It is becoming common to see a car going through high water at the George high water crossing.

"Not even heavily but every time it rains that area down there will flood," Rayond said.

It doesn't take much for the small lake on George Road to overflow its banks onto the banks and still people still drive across the rushing water despite the barricades.

"We've seen two vehicles over the past two years get swept off, one was a van the other is that one that's just off in the woods," said Raymond.

Turn around, don't drown when there's high levels of water on the roads.

Raymond took a different way to work to avoid the flooding.

"If I know it's going to rain like this morning I took the long way to work because I knew there was going to be flooding," he said.

It might be the long way but it's definitely not the wrong way.
