SAN ANTONIO -- While many people are choosing to stay indoors and out of the rain, some aren't letting a little mud ruin their Sunday.

Normally, the San Antonio River is very calm and people can usually drive through to the other side Brackenridge Park.

However after Sunday morning's storm, the water is moving fast and the other sidewalks are flooded. Still many people are setting up out here to enjoy a day with family, no matter what Mother Nature throws their way.

Clarissa Lopez woke up to rain outside her window Sunday morning.

“We were kind of like, ‘No this can't be happening today. But it's our son's first birthday so rain or shine we're going to get through it and make it the best day.’," she said.

While many chose to avoid the outdoors after the storms because of flooded streets and on-and-off again drizzle, she and her family chose to head out to Brackenridge Park anyway.

For her, there were bigger issues than the overflowing San Antonio River just a few feet away. Lopez was forced to put only one half of her cake on display thanks to some melting icing.

"The cake broke,” she said. “This part (the icing on the side) just started sliding, so now I have that right there,” said Lopez.

But nothing kept guests away. I was a good sign for party organizers who worried they’d get stuck with about 60 hamburgers. The family also prepared for Sunday’s football games.

"We're actually going to bring a TV out here and watch the game," said Lopez.

A few tables away, members of a local car club gathered outside the large trees too.

"We had already plans, me and my friends. We're going to cook some fajitas, sausage, ribs and chicken wings,” said Daniel Govea.

It was a celebration of family that no rain, mud or flood can get in the way of.
