SAN ANTONIO – A man has been shot by a police officer after he allegedly rammed into a patrol vehicle in an attempt to flee on the West Side.

Around 1:18 a.m. police were called to a shoplifting at a 7-Eleven convenience store on North Zarzamora. An arriving officer attempted to get a driver out of a vehicle at the scene, but he refused.

The officer spotted a gun in the man’s waistband and called a second officer to the scene. Police said the driver then tried to flee by ramming into a patrol car.

One of the officers deployed a Taser on the man twice with no effect. The second officer, who claimed to have felt in danger, shot the man twice in the torso.

The officer who fired the shots will be placed of administrative duty during the investigation.

It is unknown if the man was the shoplifting suspect or what his condition is.
