A strong cold front will move through western North Carolina late Tuesday. Behind it, we'll enjoy a brief taste of early-fall conditions to round out the end of the work week.

A rather robust low pressure system continues to move eastward through the Great Lakes region early Tuesday. It's associated cold front -- a strong cold front for this time of year -- will begin budging towards the Tennessee border today, allowing for humid and warm conditions in front of it, with additional rounds of showers and storms expected to fire up by this afternoon. Some of the storms could become severe and produce damaging winds, with a "Marginal" risk for severe weather in place almost across the entire state of North Carolina. Today will feature another day of high dewpoints and daytime highs in the upper 80s across the Piedmont.

By Wednesday, we'll finally start to get a taste of some drier, cooler air that will persist across the region at least through Friday. Expect minimal to zero chances for storms over the next few days with dewpoints down in the 50s by Thursday and Friday coupled with highs in the mid-80s -- very comfortable for mid-August! We'll experience abundant sunshine through Friday as well, with clear, cool nights featuring lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Summertime heat makes a quick comeback over the weekend, so enjoy the September-like weather while it lasts!
