AUSTIN, Texas – Authorities are investigating the death of a swimmer in Lake Travis.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office said around 8 p.m. Saturday, they responded to a call to assist the fire department about a swimmer who had been pulled from the waters of Lake Travis and was unconscious.

Witnesses say Juan Maldonado, 46, of Cedar Park, became distressed in the water. After seeing Maldonado go under, they were able to pull him back up and onto their boat. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Lake Patrol Deputies were on scene within four minutes and moved Maldonado onto their boat. He was transported to Mansfield Dam Park where CPR was performed but life-saving measures were unsuccessful. He was later pronounced dead.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
