BOERNE, Texas -- The Boerne Police Department on Friday reported a woman accused of firing on two of its officers is in custody.

The odd chain of events started about 3:42 a.m. Friday when the officers were dispatched to the Vista Apartments, located at 125 Crosspoint, concerning a call about an in-progress burglary.

The department said the caller reported someone was at her apartment door, trying to get inside. The caller later reported the person was inside the apartment unit.

The responding officers couldn’t locate an intruder. They then cleared the scene but were called back to the apartment three minutes later concerning someone spraying an unknown substance under the caller's front door.

The caller then told the dispatcher someone was at her window. Again, police found no one. While the dispatcher was on the phone with the caller, the dispatcher informed the officers that the caller could not hear them knocking on her door. The officers knocked louder.

It was then, police said, the woman starting shooting a pistol, and some of the bullets flew toward the officers. The officers retreated toward their patrol vehicle and took cover. Neither was injured.

The officers issued the woman verbal commands, and she surrendered. The woman, identified as 45-year-old Melissa Rowley, was charged with two counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer.

The officers involved were identified as Pablo Morales, who has been with the department for six years, and Nicholas McWright, who has been with the department for one year.
