SAN ANTONIO -- It seems like every day is a day dedicated to something, and Friday was no different.

Friday marked National Thrift Shop Day, a day dedicated to smart savings and thrifty finds. You never know what you might find at a thrift store. What makes the experience even better is knowing your purchase might help a child or family in need.

On National Thrift Shop Day, $20 might be all you need to get some good deals.

At Roy Maas Youth Alternatives shop Friday, everything was 50 percent off, and all proceeds went toward helping children in their emergency shelter and in their outreach programs. Some of those children have been abused or neglected.

Goodwill also offered half off selected items - everything from antiques to back-to-school finds. Every purchase helped fund education and training programs for veterans, military families, at-risk youth, and people with disabilities.

"It makes me feel wonderful, it's a very fulfilling job. Not only do I love thrift shops, I'm a thrift shop girl and now I'm managing a thrift shop, and it's helping children so it's a double dip of wonderfulness," said Kaz Sephton with RMYA Thrift Shop.
