SAN MARCOS, Texas – Two brothers have been arrested in connection to San Marcos’ first homicide of the year.

Jacob Portier, 27, and Jason Portier, 26, are facing capital murder charges after a man was found shot to death in a parking lot on Aug. 14.

Police said Matthew Jacob Rodriguez, 27, was found dead with gunshot wounds in the torso at the Park North Condos.

According to San Marcos Police Chief Chase Stapp, authorities believe the incident may have been a drug deal gone wrong.

The brothers are both being held on a $750,000 bond at the Hays County Jail. Investigators discovered that the brothers are familiar with the San Marcos area and had recently been living in Round Rock.

"It's what I would call about normal for San Marcos, one or two a year. We've had good years when we've had none. We've had bad years when we've had five or six. Overall, San Marcos is a safe city and we don't have things like this happen on a regular basis in San Marcos,” said Stapp.
