SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio high school teacher is starting off the school year on a high note.

Mary Beggs just learned that she will be getting a new kidney this year. She has been living with acute kidney failure.

After her students found out they began a hunt to find her a donor. Many of the students handed out flyers searching for a match.

Ultimately, it was a Facebook post that led Beggs to find her perfect donor. She is expected to receive a kidney transplant in December this year.

Doctors said the transplant will add an estimated 20 years to her life.
