UVALDE, Texas — Uvalde County Sheriff's Office says 27 people were successfully rescued from the Nueces River at Chalk Bluff Park in Uvalde, Texas on Sunday.

According to the sheriff's office, they got caught in high waters after heavy rainfall and were unable to leave the park.

The National Weather Service said up to eight inches of rain fell in the area, causing the Nueces River to overflow its banks.

Rescued visitors are receiving medical attention, but no major injuries were reported.

Holt Helicopters assisted emergency personnel and delivered life jackets to people in the river.
