SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Sports is hanging on to hope after submitting their bid to the U.S. Tennis Association Friday for their chance at the Davis Cup.

The nonprofit's Senior Vice President of Communication Mary Ullman Japhet was part of putting that bid together.

"We had the [U.S. Tennis Association] visit in the last week and they walked through the venues around town and at the coliseum," Japhet said.

The proposed venue for the event would be at the Freeman Coliseum.

"This is not the first time we've put out a bid but this is the first time its gotten this close to becoming reality,” Japhet said.

The Men's U.S. team is set to face off against Croatia next month. While preparation for the event has already begun, Japhet says she won't know if San Antonio will be a contender until after the game.

"What has to happen is that the U.S. Men's Team will travel to Croatia and play them in September, if they win they'll win the right to host a home final."

If Croatia wins, the final will be held in Europe in November.
