SAN ANTONIO -- Members of a group that has been protesting outside a Northside San Antonio ICE facility have now packed up and gone home.

A call concerning a fire at the address Tuesday morning led San Antonio police asking the group, Occupy ICE SATX, to leave.

No fire was found, but members began to leave before the San Antonio Police Department would then say it was alright for them to stay. However by then, everyone was gone.

The group is part of a national movement protesting the separation of families and deportations of immigrants. They spent 24 hours a day outside of an unmarked ICE processing facility.

"Before we were here, even people who worked here didn't know what was going on here and the city, most of the people in the city didn't know that ICE had this facility here," said Kazi, with Occupy ICE.

It is an accomplishment that the group said is from their around-the-clock efforts.

"It's one thing to read an article and another thing to be out here and watch the families here coming in for appointments,” said Austin, with Occupy ICE.

By Tuesday afternoon, the space from where they watched and waited was cleared. Though protestors took tents, chairs and generators with them, a trailer full of other items like trash, rocks, even a tire were left behind.

The items were all collected by employees of neighboring businesses who wished not to be identified.
