SAN ANTONIO — For some, real estate can be tricky to navigate without an expert there to help.

It's no secret that San Antonio's housing market is booming and more and more, banks, lenders and real estate companies are stepping up to help, not only first time home buyers, but also seniors who want to make some upgrades.

"We just want to make sure the people in the communities we serve, have all the answers to the questions that they have," Estrellita Garcia-Diaz with Jefferson Bank said.

This is the first time Jefferson Bank made this kind of outreach in San Antonio. According to reports, home prices are at record highs, but the number of homes on the market is at a record low. Reports from the National Association of Realtors suggest first time-buyers make up 34 percent of all buyers.

"We are actually a new non-profit home builder, we started last year, we sold our first two homes," Blanca Salazar with Cross Timber Homes said.

As a sister company of Habitat for Humanity, Salazar says Cross Timber Homes is a specific group looking to help others buying a home.

"We ran into the problem where families were over income for a program, but couldn't afford an affordable payment because San Antonio keeps growing, property taxes are increasing, homeowners insurance as well. So that's why we created this new program," Salazar said.

When talking about finding or updating your dream home in Bexar County, seniors as a whole can't be overlooked. The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies says spending by homeowners 55 and older could grow by nearly 33 percent with the next ten years.

"We hope to do these more continually, maybe quarterly, maybe semiannually, but it's definitely something I think is needed," Garcia-Diaz said.
