SAN ANTONIO -- Arguments over the city's Cenotaph have historians and planners taking up sides weeks before a new rendering of the Alamo Master Plan is revealed.

The monument is historically known to honor defenders killed in the Battle of the Alamo.

Its relocation is one of the most controversial issues in the proposed plan. City leaders want the Cenotaph relocated to show a more complete picture of the battle. Critics of a move say its current placement was done for a reason.

"The cenotaph needs to stay in position in the exact center of the Alamo. It was put there on purpose,” said Brandon Burkhart, with This Is Texas Freedom Force.

"We are not eliminating the cenotaph. We are saying we are making more room for the stories," said Councilman Roberto Trevino.

The proposed design moves the Cenotaph about 500 feet from its current location in Alamo Plaza. A new draft plan will be revealed to the public in August.
