SAN ANTONIO -- The recent rain has stirred up the pests and it is keeping pest control companies very busy.

ABC Home & Commercial Services said it is swamped with new customers looking to get rid of the pests that popped up after the recent rain.

The company said it has been doing a lot of consultations and said there some things people can do to prevent critters from getting in the first place.

For starters, clean up all crumbs after a meal and don't leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight. That only attracts insects. Also, try to eat in the kitchen. Taking food to other rooms only increases the chances of attracting more creatures.

"Ants, roaches, anything like that, they're just like humans. They're looking for food, shelter and water. The home provides the shelter, there's lots of water from faucets and food, crumbs and syrup on the counter top, anything like that," said Steven Meyer of ABC Home & Commercial Services.

Some of the more common pests trying to get into homes right now are flying ants, roaches, even scorpions.
