AUSTIN, Texas -- Fireworks are now being sold across the state in preparation for the Fourth of July.

With current weather conditions in Austin, the fire department is warning about potential fire risks. The Austin area is currently under a moderate risk.

"Fourth of July means hot, so the fire danger is always hovering between moderate and high," said Division Chief Palmer Buck.

Buck said the recent rain will likely dry up before the holiday, posing dangers for those who don't pop fireworks with caution.

"If you do want to use fireworks, do that outside of city limits and do that under good supervision. We see fires started every year from fireworks inside of trash cans or setting grass on fire off sides of roads or in backs of houses,” said Buck.

If you use fireworks within the city limits, you could face a fine or criminal charges if you cause a fire. When you are celebrating, have a bucket of water just in case you do start a fire.
