ROUND ROCK, Texas — A Texas congressional candidate from Round Rock is gaining national attention for a new campaign ad she’s released.

MJ Hegar, an Air Force combat veteran, is running for Texas Congress District 31 seat. In her now-viral ad, she uses doors to explain why she is running for office on behalf of the Democratic party.

Growing up as the daughter of a single mom in Texas, following her dream of being a pilot meant "opening, pushing, and, sometimes, kicking through every door," she says in the ad.

The ad follows along the Air Force veteran's path starting with her as little girl at her mother's side, escaping a domestic abuse situation to helping save her team from Taliban capture after their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.

Hegar, winner of a Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross, also made headlines when she challenged the Pentagon's policy that excluded women from ground combat back in 2013.

The ad ends with her promise to "show ...the door" to her rival, Republican Rep. John Carter, an eight-term congressman.

What do you think? The music in the background is even pretty catchy.
