SAN ANTONIO — Thousands of dollars were stolen over the weekend from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

According to a police report, the robbery happened overnight between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Police were called to the church after receiving a call regarding a busted window. A church employee said went to the safe to discover over $3,000 worth of money and checks missing.

A woman with the church who discovered the scene, the alarm is activated overnight and that she was never notified that the alarm went off after being set that evening.

After the scene was assessed, police said it’s likely that the perpetrator(s) knew where to go to locate the funds.

In the report, police said when questioned, church officials said approximately 20 people have access to the code and that there were a series of pass codes that are used.

The church is working with the alarm company to run a history on the alarm to what happened.

In addition to the money stolen, doors were pried open, leading to additional damage.
