HOUSTON — A Texas gun range is offering free active shooter training to teachers and school staff.

Arms Room Indoor Range and Firearms Retail Store is offering the classes in Dickinson, about 20 miles Northwest of Galveston.

Instructors want to help teachers know how to respond to a mass shooting, and they want to teach them the basics of trauma first aid.

Participants say they believe the information could help them get through a crisis.

"I was very interested in the trauma portion because I have a 5-year-old and I teach, so if there is a situation, I need to be able to think with a level head," Carol Waters, a teacher at Pasadena ISD said.

The gun range says it will offer the classes again on May 31 and June 6.
