NATIONWIDE — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced its outlook for the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.
During a press conference Thursday, NOAA members said they are predicting 10-15 named storms and five to nine hurricanes with one to four of those being major hurricanes.
According to NOAA, a major hurricane is considered a category three, four of five hurricane with winds of 111 miles per hour or higher.
NOAA forecasts there is a 75 percent chance that the hurricane season will be near- or above-normal. An average hurricane season produces 12 named storms, of which 6 become hurricanes, including 3 major hurricanes.
