NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – After Friday's deadly school shooting in Santa Fe, the New Braunfels police chief called the superintendent of New Braunfels Independent School District.

Chief Tom Wibert wants more officers at all NBISD schools to enhance school safety. The officials agreed that police officers will now patrol the district’s 15 campuses through the end of the school year.

This was one of the recommendations at a public forum following February's Parkland High School shooting.

“One of the things we’re looking at is contracting with New Braunfels Police Department to provide school resource officers. And, in doing that, those officers will be employees of the New Braunfels Police Department that will be contracted to us,” said Randy Moczygemba, New Braunfels ISD Superintendent.

Moczygemba called the Santa Fe shooting a superintendent’s worst nightmare.

“I can’t imagine going through that, of course the Sutherland Springs shooting was even closer to us. You know, it involved a former student of ours,” said Moczygemba.

The school board will work to make this a permanent part of the school’s safety plan at a budget meeting next month.
