SANTA FE, Texas — While the community is still trying to process Friday’s deadly shooting, a memorial at Santa Fe High School grows, paying tribute to the 10 lives lost, which has now become part of the healing process.

Waves of people, including many students, have come here and pay their respects. Throughout the day they’ve been dropping flowers, stuffed animals, balloons — all to say their final goodbyes.

They’ve also been writing short messages on these 10 crosses. They have the names and pictures of the 8 students and 2 teachers killed.

The gunman Friday also injured more than a dozen others. Among the people who stopped by was Sonia Lopez. Her daughter, 16-year-old Sarah Salazar is still in the hospital. She was shot several times on the left side of her body. Sonia didn’t hear from her daughter or authorities for two hours that Friday. Her older daughter is also a student at the high school.

“I couldn’t get a hold of her and i knew she was in the classroom so i broke down and i was crying and i couldn’t get a hold of her because i knew she was there,” Lopez said.

“We’re just hoping that they’re able to pull her tube out today and that she can breathe on her own.”

Sarah Salazar’s mother tells us her body is showing signs of improvement but she needs several surgeries There’s now an online campaign* raising money for her here.
