SAN ANTONIO -- A South Texas doctor with practices in San Antonio and McAllen is charged with a $240 million health care fraud and international money laundering scheme.

Sixty-one-year-old Jorge Zamora-Quezada is facing a seven-count indictment in the Southern District of Texas.

Authorities say for more than 18 years this doctor jeopardized the health and safety of children, elderly patients and patients with disabilities, and because his practices are still open, they say it's crucial victims come forward.

Within a 20-page indictment, federal prosecutors say Zamora-Quezada gave chemotherapy and other toxic medications to patients who didn't need it.

"The indictment states that many of the victims who are misdiagnosed were diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases," said Special Agent Michelle Lee with the FBI San Antonio office.

The indictment alleges the doctor and his co-conspirators flew around in his private jet and drove his Maserati between between the Valley and San Antonio in order to keep up the fraud. It also says they invested proceeds of their fraud scheme in real estate within the U.S. and Mexico.

Lee said the focus is now on tracking down the victims.

"Tracking down the victims is really important, and that is because they could be currently receiving treatment that is harmful to their health," Lee said.

The doctor currently has a practice in San Antonio in the Medical Center on Datapoint Drive and previously had one on on Barlite Boulevard on the Southwest Side.

Lee said that even if you weren't treated by this specific doctor it's possible you were seen by one of the co-conspirators. She said that because so many people visit from Mexico or come as winter Texans, the pool of victims could be very large, especially since allegations go back more than 18 years.

"If you were a visitor here legally or if you were here undocumented, we're not concerned about your legal status. We want to help you," Lee said.
