SAN ANTONIO — [UPDATE: 5:55 p.m.] The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man who died in San Antonio police custody as 36-year-old Gaspar Guzman.

ORIGINAL STORY: The San Antonio Police Department is investigating a death of a man who died after being detained.

According to police, they were called out to a house on Rosemont Drive around 10 p.m. Saturday to remove a man who refused to leave a party.

As the officers were attempting to escort the man from the house, he became combative and started fighting with the officers. The officers then used a taser to subdue him in order gain enough control to place him under arrest.

Once handcuffed, police said he continued to be combative towards officers and EMS personnel who had been called due to the taser deployment.

A short time later, the deceased became unresponsive and EMS pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

The man is a 36-year-old hispanic male. His name is being withheld until next of kin is notified. 

The case will be investigated by the members of the shooting team who investigate all deaths involving SAPD officers. The officers involved will be placed on administrative duty pending the results of the investigation.
