SAN ANTONIO -- We know the Battle of Flowers parade was a big success and a Fiesta favorite as always.

What you may not know is that it's been going on since the late 1800s, and there are some rules for parade floats.

Fiesta is about everyone coming together to celebrate. Every float is important, and there's no way parade organizers and other groups weren't going to let someone sit out. On Friday morning we caught something like that happening, and it only took about 15 minutes to get under control.

We were down on the route for morning live shots and our crew noticed something going on with the Tricentennial float. The Battle of Flowers members were going around inspecting the floats and noticed that the 300 one didn't have a decorated truck pulling it.

Parade organizers say rules and regulations are sent out in September and in the spring. The 300 float would have had to sit the parade out, but as we all saw it didn't.

Volunteers and other groups came together quickly to put on some decorations and all went well from there.

"We said as long as they would help us, then we would help them. And that's what it's all about. This is supposed to be a celebration of San Antonio. It's supposed to be a wonderful, festive day," said parade chairman Nel Belt.

The parade chairman also said that they just felt it was the fair thing to enforce since all other floats had to do exactly the same thing. This year's parade was bigger than previous years with 49 floats, 25 marching bands and 12,000 people participating.
