AUSTIN, Texas — A photo posted to social media displaying a gun in a backpack with the caption, “Ready for School,” circulating to multiple Austin-area schools Thursday morning.

The Westlake High School student posted the photo on Snapchat social media network.

The photo prompted school officials in Hays and Travis counties to investigate as they tried to determine whether it was one of their students.

According to WHS, law enforcement took the student into custody but did not find a weapon in the student’s possession or at the school.

In a letter to families, WHS Principal Steve Ramsey said school administrators were notified of “the potentially threatening social media post.”

Earlier in the day, David R. Pierce, principal at Hays High School shared a similarly worded email with families about the post.
