SAN ANTONIO — Four baboons are accounted for after a brief escape from the Texas Biomedical Research Institute’s Southwest National Primate Research Center.

According to the center, four baboons left their enclosure. Three of them were able to get out of the perimeter fencing of the center’s property and were captured within 20 minutes of their escape. The fourth baboon returned to the enclosure. The baboons were checked out by veterinary staff and are doing fine.

The center is investigating how the baboons were able to get out of their enclosure to make sure this type of incident does not happen again.

The center has approximately 1100 baboons on the property that are used in biomedical research.
