SAN ANTONIO — After receiving numerous complaints, San Antonio Cat Café is under the microscope by Animal Care Services.

The North Side café is still open, but all cats are off limits for now. ACS got several tips showing sick cats being exposed to healthy cats and humans.

While the cafe works to get on top of the problem, the cafe cannot take in any more animals.

During ACS’s latest visit, investigators found more than half the animals did not have the required rabies shots.

“The photos actually were taken beforehand,” Casey Steuart, owner of the San Antonio Cat Cafe, said. “When I say beforehand – meaning over time, but not current. Because, those cats, number one are not here. One of them is and he’s totally healthy. And so, when I see the picture, I’m like, well, that’s when he had an issue and now the issue has been resolved through vet care.”

“We’re monitoring it very closely right now,” Shannon Sims, assistant director of ACS said. “If we do come to a point where we feel that the health of the animals has become exergen in nature, we will absolutely move with the seizure.”

More than 50 cats have been quarantined. ACS is currently working with the cafe's owner to get everything corrected.
