SAN ANTONIO -- New traffic patterns are coming to two busy downtown streets.

Two-way traffic flow on Main and Soledad streets aren't the only things commuters will notice come Monday morning.

"For years, decades, it's only been one-way with Main going south and Soledad going north," said Paul Berry with the City's Transportation & Capital Improvements department.

Starting Monday morning that's set to change.

The City's Transportation and Capital Improvements department says we can expect to see a total transformation around the area near Frost Park.

You'll see expanded sidewalks, bike lanes, crosswalks, traffic signals and other colorful additions.

There is also a lot you can't see.

Crews have replaced 100-year-old water, sewer, and gas lines.

Efforts to make Main and Soledad two-way streets started back in October 2016. The $7 million project was voter approved and part of the 2012 bond program.

"Now that it's all coming to an end we think there's going to be a lot more commuters, a lot more pedestrians coming to this area. It's going to open it up for new business. It's just really an exciting time," Berry said.

The barricades should be taken away first thing Monday morning, as soon as the early commute starts to kick in.
