OLMOS PARK, Texas -- Members of Open Carry Texas attempted to deliver a stack of petitions Saturday to Olmos Park City Hall after marching through the streets, rallying for what they see as improper treatment of gun rights.

The march was held after group founder CJ Grisham was arrested while openly carrying a rifle in March. A Youtube video, viewed more than 65,000 times, shows the encounter.

"It really doesn't make me feel all that well because I open carry," said activist Carlos Soliz.

Demonstrators said that there have been six other confrontations with the department since February. Members are now calling for the dismissal of police chief Rene Valenciano.

"It comes down to this. We have this thing called the law. I have to follow it. All of y'all have to follow and they have to follow it,” said activist David Aamad.

Before Grisham's arrest, Olmos Park had an ordinance banning people from carrying long guns. Two days after the incident, city council repealed it. However, activists say their efforts reach further than the repeal.

"This was never about the ordinance. This is about respecting people's rights, whether you have an ordinance or not. Very simple,” said Aamad.

Spectrum News reached out the department for comment on the recent arrests but we have not heard back.
