JOURDANTON, Texas — A 1-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy were found wandering on a Texas highway in the very early morning hours Tuesday on a Texas highway.

Jourdanton Police Officer Mike Hetzer said the boy was carrying his sister along Highway 16 at Mesquite St. in Jourdanton and were discovered at 3:55 a.m.

Jourdanton is a part of Atascosa County, approximately 45 minutes south of San Antonio.

The little boy tripped and dropped his sister, causing her to injure her nose. Both children were taken to Methodist South Hospital in Jourdanton to be checked out.

They were accompanied to the hospital by grandparents and a CPS case worker.

Police said the mother said left the door propped open and the kids wandered out looking for her. On Wednesday, the mother was identified as 25-year-old Jessica Bowen. She was charged with abandoning or endangering a child with intent to return. She was released from custody on a $20,000 bond.

The mother was taken into custody and is being charged with child endangerment. The conditions of the children are unknown at this time.
